The MARUM (Zentrum für Marine Umweltwissenschaften) has developed into an internationally re-cognized center for marine research anchored at the University of Bremen.
It hosts the Cluster of Excellence ›The Ocean Floor – Earth’s Uncharted Interface‹ (as of 1.1.2019) as well as many additional national and international research projects.
Furthermore, MARUM operates one of the three IODP core repositories in the world and, together with the AWI, the World Data Center for Marine Environmental Sciences (PANGAEA)
How to get there
Plane, train, tram & car
Public transport in Bremen is efficient and highly recommended.
Unless you arrive late evening at Airport Bremen, it is recommended to take the tram (“Straßenbahn”) line no. 6 with direction “Universität” to the city center (Central Station = “Hauptbahnhof”), this trip takes 16 min.
The trip with the same tram line no. 6 from “Hauptbahnhof” to the final station “Universität-Nord” takes 14 minutes. From there, it is a 200 m walk to the MARUM building, Leobener Str. 8 (see Campus Map).
The tram tickets can be purchased on the tram (big blue box in the front part of the train), a single ticket is ~ € 2.80. At the airport you will also find ticket machines at the tram stop.
A taxi from Bremen Airport to the University costs around € 25-30. It will take approximately 20 minutes, depending on the traffic. Taxis are in front of the airport and the Central Station.
Car parks: A limited number of car parks is available at the University Campus (MARUM) for € 1/hour. Two more underground garages are at the end of Badgasteiner Straße and Enrique-Schmidt-Strasse, € 1.50/hour.
